A Look Back Into the Best New TV Shows of 2020

2020 a year straight out of a Stephen King’s novel, a year that we all going to remember, a year when we had to stay home and find an escape from the real world watching TV.

Although the TV and Films industry suffered a hard hit this year, that wasn’t enough to deprive us of getting tons of good tv series throughout the year.

Prove of that are the following TV series that premiere this year that deserve an add to the list if you haven’t watched them already.

Hollywood (Netflix)

HOLLYWOOD – Inspire in 1940s Hollywood, is a fictional story that combines real-life Hollywood icons and amazing storytelling (Netflix)

One of my favorites this year. Hollywood is a visual masterpiece. Created by Ryan Murphy, Hollywood is the story of actors and filmmakers during the golden age of Cinema, trying to make it in Hollywood and doing anything to make their dreams come true.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist musical dramedy that will win your heart.

While Zoey thinks this is a curse it quickly turns into a blessing because it gives her the ability to communicate with her father that suffers from PSP.

This has the ability the make you laugh, cry, dance, sing all in the same episode is a journey of emotions that few shows can do right.

The Flight Attendant (HBO MAX)

The Flight Attendant is the murder mystery drama we didn’t know we needed this year.

Kaley Cuoco returns to our screens with this murder mystery drama about an alcoholic flight attendant with daddy issues who’s life change when she wakes up next to a dead body.

The Flight Attendant is a murder mystery drama that we didn’t know we needed this year. Take your chamomile tea (trust me you’ll need it) and prepared to be glued to the screen.

Pretty Little Liars meets Center Stage, Tiny Pretty Things is a mystery drama that centers on a school of ballet that proves to full of secrets and betrayals after an attack on the star student.

It’s like trying to figure out who’s A while you watch wonderful ballet performances. I’m telling is addicted AF.

Normal People (Hulu)

Who doesn’t love a good romance story? (Hulu)

Directly from Ireland, Normal People is one the most critically acclaimed series of 2020.

Inspire by the film Love Simon, Love Victor is a love letter to film. Victor faces the challenges of life in a new high school while dealing with family drama and exploring his sexual orientation, Victor writes to Simon in search of answers and advice as things get complicated.

As a fan of the movie I was really looking forward to watch the spinoff, the producer did an amazing job of keeping the essence of the film and translated into a new story that as good as the original.

Bridgerton (Netflix)

Premiere: December 25, 2020

Let me tell about my experience with this show. I’m a huge fan of Shonda Rhimes, but i’m not such a fan of period dramas.

So I started watching just because I couldn’t understand why Shonda Rhimes from Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder decided to make a show like this her first production for Netflix.

A minute after i press play I knew why, this show is a gem. Very similar to what would have been Gossip Girl in the 1800s, Netflix’s period drama Bridgerton is the story of a powerful family and their attempt to find love in the Regency period while they deal with the Gossip that surrounds a newsletter by a mystery woman called Lady Whistledown.

The Undoing (HBO MAX)

Premiere: October 25, 2020

Another addictive thriller that is going to keep you guessing till the end.

Starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, The Undoing is a psychological thriller about the perfect wealthy family that appears not to be that perfect after all when a scandal of epic proportions involves them.

The Queen’s Gambit (Netflix)

Premiere: October 23, 2020

2020’s hit series is set during the Cold War-era chess prodigy Beth Harmon struggles with addiction while works to become the world’s greatest chess player.

A little bit slow for my test but I can see why people love it so much. The originality of the show is the key how would have know that a chess game could be so entertaining.

Mrs. America (Hulu)

MISS AMERICA – A dramatic look at the Equal Rights Amendment Movement (Hulu)

Premiere: April 18, 2020

Brilliant performances by all the women on the cast lead by Cate Blanchett.

Based on true events, Mrs. America focuses on the story of the Equal Rights Amendment Movement focusing on the war between conservative woman Phyllis Schlafly and a group of feminist women fighting for equal rights a political event that forever change the feminist movement.

Emily In Paris (Netflix)

Premiere: October 2, 2020

From the creator of Sex and The City comes Emily In Paris. An American girl moves to Paris after being hired to provide the point of view of an American on a Marketing firm. All of this while struggling with the language, exploring the city, and trying to find love and friendship in the process.

While I have so many personal issues with the series I have to admit that it was a fan favorite this year.

For me it was a little bit unrealistic and not only that it encourage young millenials and Gen Z to think that they are entitled to everything and they know it all no matter how many years of experience older people have.

The Outsider (HBO MAX)

Premiere: January 12, 2020

Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, The Outsider follows an investigation that leads into a murder of a young boy when everything looks the supernatural has something to do with the detectives question everything they believe in.

Like everything Stephen King is dark and painful to watch sometimes but if that’s your thing you’ll love this one.

Defending Jacob (Apple TV)

Premiere: April 24, 2020

Defending Jacob is a crime drama that follows Beloved Assistant District Attorney in Massachusetts Andy Barber’s whose world turns upside down when his son is accused of murdering a classmate.

Powerfull performance by Chris Evans and Jaeden Martell. It was nice to see Chris Evans in a mature and dramatic role.

Big Sky (ABC)

Premiere: November 17, 2020

They got me at Ryan Phillippe but i stayed because it’s a really good mystery drama.

From the producers of Big Little Lies comes this mystery drama set in Montana about two private detective searching for two missing girl kidnapped by a truck driver. But when they discover they are not the only ones that disappear they most stop the killer before another girl is taken.

If you are a fan of American Horror Story this is the show for you.

Prequel to 1975 movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Ratched is the story of nurse Mildred Ratched and what made her became the nightmare of all the patients under her care.
